Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa efektif pengembangan bahan ajar yang dilakukan terhadap kemampuan membaca teks non siswa kelas VII SMP IT Darul Azhariyun. Populasi dalam penelitian ini ialah siswa kelas VII. Sampel dalam penelitian ini ialah dibagi dua, menjadi satu kelas control dan satu kelas eksperimen yang masing-masing berjumlah 15 peserta didik. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi, wawancar, dan kuseioner. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian R&D dengan model pengembangan Thiagarajaran 4D. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian maka diketahui bahwa pengembangan bahan ajar efektif terhadap kemampuan membaca teks non sastra siswa kelas VII SMP IT Darul Azhariyun. keefektivan pengembangan materi menggunakan bahan ajar ini yang diperoleh datanya dari hasil uji coba kelas kontrol dan eksperimen menunjukan bahwa kelas eksperimen mendapatkan nilai 82.000 atau 82% yang termasuk dalam kategori efektif, sedangkan untuk kelas kontrol mendapatkan nilai 58.000 atau 59% termasuk dalam kategori tidak efektif. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode R&D dengan mododel pengembangan 4D yang dikembangkan oleh Thiagarajan. Pengembangan ini melalui 4 Tahapan yaitu (define, design, development and dissemination)
